This week we focused on preparing for the playtest on Friday, October 21, and afterwards focused on making changes to our demo level based on that feedback.
Some of the focus points were:
- UI updates
- Refactor of main controller code to make it more readable and separate functionality
- Continue work on character models/animations
- New main track for first lab level
- "Hold to change states" feature + UI that displays the length needed to be held
- Fixes for player movement: Friction and rigidbody physics issues
- Toon shader effect on lab environment and character
Challenges:
- The playtest means needing to make sure things are self explanatory with controls for someone who hasn't experience the game before. We had to revisit how we explain some things and how are controls are set up.
- Code got messy quickly after the first game jam, so we needed to spend lots of time refactoring the code so it is easy to use when we add functionality going forward.
- Deciding on and creating a visual style for UI and shaders.
